Interior Ministry Partners European Security Academy To Boost Internal Security

ABUJA – In a decisive move to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, hosted a delegation from the European Security Academy (ESA) for a high-level strategic dialogue focused on deepening international cooperation.
Welcoming the delegation, led by Dr. Dariusz Sielicki, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of building a secure and prosperous Nigeria, describing the partnership with the ESA as a major step toward achieving national stability.
In a statement released on Friday, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the ESA team’s visit, highlighting the collaboration as both timely and critical in addressing the country’s internal security challenges.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised the Academy’s global experience in security systems, stating that their expertise brings confidence in their ability to deliver world-class solutions tailored to Nigeria’s needs.
He identified key areas for collaboration, including:
- Human capacity development
- Curriculum design in line with global standards
- Specialized training programs
- Capacity-building initiatives for the proposed National Paramilitary Academy
The Minister also underscored the need to embed the rule of law within security operations, noting the ESA’s involvement in international justice systems as a valuable asset.
“Our Immigration Service, Civil Defence, Correctional Service, and Fire Service are currently undergoing major reforms,” he said. “This partnership comes at a pivotal time. We must address critical issues like border control, protection of national assets, and aligning our internal services with global best practices.”
In his remarks, Dr. Sielicki acknowledged the progress Nigeria has made in the security sector and affirmed the European Security Academy’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s national security efforts.
